Leadership Passport and Capstone

A signature Haeata leadership recognition

Haeata Global
Leadership Distinction.

More than a certificate. A record of the challenges you accepted, the people you helped and the difference you chose to make.

EXCLUSIVE TO HAEATA

The Haeata Global Leadership Distinction is Haeata's own school-issued leadership certificate for a meaningful journey of challenge, volunteering, personal growth and purposeful action.

It brings together opportunities associated with Children's University, the William Pike Challenge, Student Volunteer Army and the Duke of Edinburgh's International Award, leading towards a student-designed Capstone Leadership Project.

The Distinction recognises more than participation. It encourages students to reflect on their experiences, show responsibility and demonstrate how they can contribute to others.

The path to the Distinction

Five experiences.
One leadership journey.

Our leadership framework connects discovery, personal challenge, volunteering, leadership and a final Capstone. The pathway is personalised to a student's age, interests, time at Haeata and programme eligibility.

Every step tells a story

Your Leadership
Passport.

Every step. Every choice. Every impact. Counts.

The Haeata Leadership Passport provides a place to record your challenges, adventures, service, achievements and reflections as your leadership develops.

A stamp can mark an activity. Reflection helps you understand its impact. What did you discover? How did you contribute? What might you do differently next time?

The culminating leadership experience

The Capstone
Leadership Project.

From participating in activities to creating positive change.

The Capstone is where senior students bring their learning together. They identify something that matters, develop a response, work alongside others, put their ideas into action and reflect on the difference they make.

It is an opportunity to demonstrate initiative, responsibility and purposeful leadership—not simply to complete another task.

A personal project with purpose: identify a need, shape a response, take action and reflect on the impact.

Leadership is not just what you achieve.
It is what you contribute.

THE SKILLS BEHIND THE DISTINCTION

From ideas to impact.

Leadership is something you practise—not just something you study.

The Haeata Global Leadership Distinction connects challenge, service, learning and reflection. The Capstone gives students a way to bring those experiences together in a project that matters to them and their community.

A student's project might begin with a question, a problem worth solving or an opportunity to help others. The next step is learning how to turn that idea into thoughtful action.

Confidence built through experience

Leadership is about
the difference you make.

At Haeata, leadership can begin with one small decision: help a classmate, take on a challenge, keep going when something is hard or volunteer to improve your community.

For international students, experiences alongside local ākonga can develop confidence, cultural understanding, new friendships and a stronger sense of purpose.

Lead at Haeata:
your questions answered.

Here are answers to common questions about leadership, the Distinction and specialist experiences.

What is the Haeata Global Leadership Distinction?

It is Haeata's own leadership recognition, bringing together challenge, volunteering, reflection and leadership experience, with a Capstone project as the culminating opportunity. It is not presented as an NZQA qualification.

Can international students work towards the Distinction?

International students can enquire about suitable leadership opportunities. Participation and potential completion depend on age, programme entry criteria, study duration, the activities available and the individual pathway agreed with Haeata.

What is the Capstone Leadership Project?

The Capstone is a senior-student project where learners identify a need, plan a response, take purposeful action with others and reflect on their impact.

Can I join Equine, Golf, Surf & Snow or Adventure?

You can ask about any of the four specialist programmes. Activities and coaching are planned individually and depend on factors such as age, experience, season, availability, costs and provider requirements.

Do I need to be an experienced leader?

No. Leadership is developed through practice. Trying new experiences, serving others, learning from challenges and reflecting on progress all matter.

ATA'S LEADERSHIP QUESTION

Ata, the Haeata International character, thinking about a leadership challenge

ONE QUESTION CAN START SOMETHING BIG

Ata asks: What difference could you make?

Leadership starts by noticing what matters. You don't need every answer—just the willingness to explore a problem and take a first step.

Notice: What could be better in your school or community?

Imagine: What could you do alongside other people?

Act: What would your first step be?

Ata offers a question to think about; Haeata's International team can discuss real study and leadership options with you.
